Allah says: Do people think that they will be left because they say: "We believe," and will not be tested (it is not so, they surely will be tested). And We indeed tested those who were before them but whose belief is stronger and firmer, his trial will also be strict. (Surah Al-Ankabut)
As it is necessary to make known the pure belief and faith of a momin (believer) and hypocrisy therefore it has been a divine practice to test truthfulness and falsehood of claim of belief on the touchstone of trial. Prophets (peace be on them) were tested. Take example of Prophet Ibrahim (peace be on him). The most difficult stage of his trial was to render sacrifice of his dearest son. In dream, he was ordered to slaughter his son Prophet Ismail (peace be on him) and obeying it the son without presenting any excuse and explanation paved the way. Therefore Allah says:
And when he became capable of working with him, Ibrahim said, “O my son, I dreamt that I am sacrificing you - therefore now consider what is your opinion”; he said, “O my father! Do what you are commanded! Allah willing, you will soon find me patiently enduring!” Then when they both submitted to Allah’s command, and Ibrahim lay his son facing downwards. And We called out to him, “O Ibrahim! You have indeed made the dream come true”; and this is how We reward the virtuous. Indeed this was a clear test. And We rescued him in exchange of fadaynahu be-zibhin azeem. And We kept his praise among the latter generations. Peace be upon Ibrahim! This is how We reward the virtuous. He is indeed one of Our high ranking, firmly believing bondmen. (Surah As-Saffaat 102-111)
Poet of the East Allama Iqbal had said for this occasion:
Ghareeb o Sada o rangeen hai dastan-e-haram
Nehayat is ki Hussain ibtada hai Ismail
It is a fact that neither human being has achieved any power more than belief and faith nor will ever get. Unshaking ilm-ul yaqeen, ayn ul yaqeen and haq ul yaqeen on Allah give shore to a drowning boat and shows miracle of changing fire of Nimrod into garden. Muharramul Haram is the chain of same sacrifice; many memories are linked with its advent; the scene of spiritual majalis and jaloos of azadaran of the grandson of prophet (peace be on him and his holy progeny) Shahzada-e-Konayn Hazrat Imam Hussain (peace be on him) comes in front of our eyes and the faith-enlightening climate of sacrificing mortal world in the path of loyalty covers everything; and feeling of sacrifice grows when a sacred personality along with his 72 near and dear ones presents himself for sacrifice in the scorching desert of Karbala knowing that the Personality for Whom this sacrifice is being rendered He definitely will give exaltation and success.
Jaez naheen andesha e jaan ishq main aye dil
Hoshyar keh yeh maslak tasleem o raza hai
Hussain Ibne Ali ibne Abi Talib (peace be on them) is the greatest figure of that great Khanwada (family) that the entire universe is under obligation to it; that grants humanity its true meanings; everything of universe obeys in front of its excellence; angels do prostrate on its door and ask their permission to enter. These personalities are cause of creation of the world; they are place of manifestation of majesty and beauty of divine virtues; refuge and asylum of the world of humanity about whom a saying of Allah goes: I have not created the ample sky, wide earth, bright sun and moon, shiny stars, flowing rivers and floating boats save in love for Ahli Bayt.”
About this mighty and respected family Allah says:
inama yoreedullah li yuzhiba ankomur rijsa wa yotah-hirakom tatheera (Surah Ahzab);
Whose love and devotion is termed a wages of Risalat in accordance with this divine order:
Qol la as-alokum alayhi ajran il-lal mawaddah fil qurbaa.
A son of this greatest khanwada on putting his foot on the face of this earth world becomes a cause of pride for the universe. Hussain ibne Ali (peace be on them) who is loyal, sacrificing, pious, tolerant, thankful and firm in Allah’s way and who is a role model for the world of humanity.
Insaniyat kay naam pay kya kar gaye Hussain
Tareekh kay buland khayalon say pooch lo
About him a saying of Prophet (peace be on him and his holy progeny) goes:
حسين مني و انا منه احب الله من احب حسينا
Hussain is from me and I am from Hussain. O Allah befriend him who befriends him. (Tabqaat Ibne Saad)
He further said:
من احب الحسن والحسين فقد احبني و من ابغضهما فقد ابغضني
He who keeps friend to Hasan and Hussain he keeps friend to me and their enemy is my enemy. (Tabqaat Ibne Saad)
This revered personality was brutally martyred along with his 72 faithful companions in the burning desert of Karbala and thus not only the sanctity of Muharram ul Haram was trampled rather the dignity of Khanwada e Rasool (peace be on him and his holy progeny) and Aal-i-Rasool (peace be on him and his holy progeny) was not honored but Baatil (falsehood) had no power to bend them
Jhukana chaha tha jis sar ko sham walon nay
Shikast yeh hai keh oss sar ko khud utha kay chalay
Imam Hussain (peace be on him) is that Shaheed-i-Azam whose objective of shahadat (martyrdom) is that a human being wisdom-, sagacity- and knowledge –bearer renders sacrifice of his life with his full consent in the path of Allah
رضا بقضائه و تسليما لأمره
At the time of departing Medinah Monawwara, Imam Hussain (peace be on him) wrote down his will and after putting his stamp on it handed over it to Muhammad Hanfia. He penned down therein: “This is will of Hussain ibne Ali that there is no deity save Allah and no one is His co-sharer, Muhammad is His servant and prophet who brought the true religion from Him. And I bear witness that heaven and hell are fact, Day of Judgment is reality, on that day Allah will give life to all those who are in graves.”
After elaborating his faith and ideology in this will, Imam Hussain (peace be on him) narrated objectives of adopting the path of martyrdom in this way: “I am leaving Medinah neither for entertainment nor my aim is oppression but I am going so that to correct ummah of my grandfather. And I desire to perform amar bil ma’roof and nahi anil monkar and thus follow the seerat of my respected grandfather and respect-worthy father Ali. Now if anyone accepts my invitation considering it truth, he has adopted the path of Allah, and if rejects my invitation I will show patience until Allah will make a decision between me and that people. And only Allah is the best decision-maker.” (Maqtal Khoarzmi, vol 1, p 188, Maqtal Awalim p 54)
So to say that Imam Hussain (peace be on him) had made clear to the world on the very first day that if be’at is not demanded from me even then I will not remain quiet because my opposition is not limited to Yazid’s be’at but the actual thing is that Yazid is doing oppression, barbarism and other social evils, making changes into Islamic commandments rather he has started saying on pulpit that
لعبت بني هاشم بالملك فلا خبر جاء ولا وحي نزل
Bani Hashim committed deceit just to achieve rule, neither angel came nor came any revelation.
In this way he started defacing not only religion of Allah but Shariat-e-Mustafa (peace be on him and his holy progeny), therefore Imam Aali Maqam (peace be on him) made clear through his deed that
حلال محمد حلال إلى يوم القيامة و حرام محمد حرام إلى يوم القيامة
Grandson of Prophet (peace be on him and his holy progeny) Hussain ibne Ali (peace be on them) departed Medinah Monawwara on Rajab 28, 60 AH, stepped in Makkah on Shaban 3, on Zulhijjah 8 changed hajj into umrah, reached in Karbala on Muharram 2, 61 AH, water was stopped on his army on Muharram 7 and on Muharram 10 he granted honor to martyrdom along with his 72 near and dear ones. The last words of his prayer which Imam (peace be on him) made at his last moments were: O Allah make decision between us and our people; they committed cheating to us, left alone to us, broke his promise, murdered us while we are progeny of your prophet, that Muhammad whom You chose for Your Risalat and made trustful of Your Wahi. O Allah send victory and the path of deliverance for us. O the most merciful! We are patient and grateful in front of Your order. There is no deity save You. O the Redresser of grievances of those who cry for help! There is no God but You, I am enduring on Your order. O the Helper of him who has no helper, O Who is Eternal, O the One Who gives life to dead, O the One Who gives reward to everyone according to his deeds! Make decision between me and that people. You are the Best decision-maker. Then he prostrated and said:
بسم الله و بالله على ملة رسول الله
(Lahouf, p 110)
Companions of Imam Aali Maqam had matchlessly presented themselves for sacrifice.
Mudaayesh saltanat booday agar
Khud na kar dib a chanin saaman e safar
The greatest Hussaini objective was preaching of Tauhid, and defense and protection of religious and Islamic values, human dignity and the world of humanity.
Naqsh i Il-Lallah ber sehraa nawisht
Satr I unwaan nijaat ma nawisht
Philosophy of Azadari is to keep the spirit of sacrifice alive. As there is philosophy of prayer, fasting and hajj and they are worships similarly Azadari of Syed ush Shuhada is worship. Bandagi (service) demands obeying every commandment of Allah whether our mind could access it or not because intellect could not reach to it. Jumping of Khalil-Khuda in Pyre of Namrod was due to Ishq (love) while intellect remained busy in seeing this. Poet of the East says:
Sidq e Khalil bhi hai ishq sabr e Hussain bhi hai ishq
Markah e wajoud main Badr o Honain bhi hai ishq
In the war of Ohad, one holy tooth of holy Prophet was martyred and the faithful companion filled with ishq-e-Rasool Awais Qarni martyred his 32 teeth.
Bay dard zamanah kya jaanay is ishq main kya kya hota hai
Muharram ul Haram gives us lesson that whenever sacrifice is demanded people must inculcate spirit of martyrdom in their hearts. Crying and shedding tears for Imam Aali Maqam (peace be on him) and meaning of Azadari is participation in his boldness and courage, harmony with Hussaini thought and conformity with desire of martyrdom that aims that oppression could never raise head again so that whole society could be stopped from walking on the footsteps of oppressors. A poet says:
Kher o sharr bar sar e paykaar azal say hain aziz
Yehi dastur badastur chala ata hai
That is why Poet of the East says:
Moosa o Fir’on Shabbir o Yazid
Een do quwwat az hayat ayad padeed
We are under obligation to Imam e Mazloom (peace be on him) that every person desires to be called ‘Hussaini’ and does not like to even utter the name of ‘Yazid’. Josh says:
Haan ab bhi jo minara e azmat hai who Hussain
Jis ki nigah marg e adawat hai who Hussain
Jo Ab bhi mehwar e dars e muhabbat hai who Hussain
Adam ki jo dall e sharafat hai who Hussain
Wahid jo ik namoona hai zibh e azeem ka
Allah ray intekhaab Khuda e Hakeem ka
Taqat si shay ko khak main jis say mila dea
Takhta ulat kay qasr e hakumat gira dea
Jis ne haw ape ro’b e amarat ura dea
Thokar se jis ne afsar e shahi ko dha dea
Jis ki waja say zulm siyah faam ho gaya
Naam e Yazid daakhil e dushnaam ho gya
The same Hussain keeps place in every heart, every eye is shedding tear for Hussain and every person is mourner of Hussain. Every human being whether he belongs to any school of thought he joins Hussaini mourning. This is the reason that Hussain is called martyr of humanity. A Hindu poet says:
Teri dunya main ay khuda e Hussain
Mera koi naheen siwaye Hussain
Hindu Muslim ki koi Qed naheen
Dil e pur-dard main hai jaye Hussain
Today the sacrifice of Imam Hussain (peace be on him) and his companions is being commemorated in such a time when colonial powers in the name of protecting human rights (that in fact is the biggest enemy and traitor of humanity) is utilizing all its energy for heinous conspiracies. Its dual standard has been revealed in Palestine, Kashmir, Iraq and Afghanistan. Now Wikileaks has further disclosed its secrets. Colonial powers in fact are afraid of Muslims’ spirit of martyrdom which is bestowed to them by Karbala
Dars Karbala ka hai
Khof bas khuda ka hai
Hence, colonial chief and its stooges desire to cool down this spirit of sacrifice just for their interests and maintain supremacy, and by using the weapon of biases are bent upon destructing peace of Pakistan because its basic ideology is Islam and
Islam ke daman main is ke siwa kya hai
Ik zarb e yadullahi ik sajda e Shabbiri
Therefore, every religion- and motherland-loving person is duty bound to foil international conspiracy of New World Order being laced with Quwwat e Haideri and Jazba e Shabbiri, thus tell the Taqhooti world that we all are Hussaini and will jointly observe Imam Hussain (peace be on him)’s mourning paying homage to the imam (peace be on him) and condolence to holy Prophet (peace be on him and his holy progeny).
I am announcing the following Code of Azadari in connection with the upcoming Muharram ul Haram so that we could thwart internal and external conspiracies by acting upon it and thus could become successful in the court of Allah and His Rasool (peace be on him and his holy progeny):
Code of Azadari 1432 AH
1- Protection and defense of Basic Ideology should be preferred on every level.
2- All schools of thought should be respected heartily and no interference should be made in one another’s ideologies.
3- All schools of thought should highlight the objective of martyrdom of Imam Hussain (peace be on him) preaching their ideologies in a positive manner.
4- Ulema e karam, zakireen uzzam should give priority to unity and harmony, and integrity of religion and motherland on every echelon.
5- The powers that be should honor the May 21, 1985 Junejo-Moosavi agreement in connection with bringing out Azadari processions. And no change should be made in Azadari programmes.
6- Muharram Azadari Cells should be set up at the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Religious Affairs, and in all the four Provinces including Azad Kashmir and Northern Areas and should be directed to keep a close contact with the Control Rooms of Central and provincial Muharram Committees of Tehreek Nafaz Fiqh-e-Jafariya.
7- No one should be permitted to take law in his hand.
8- Miscreants, terrorists and banned outfits should be dealt with iron hands.
9- The organisers of Majalis should make protective measures on self-help basis and remain fully alert.
10- The countrymen should keep a strict eye on enemies of religion and motherland and beware of elements preaching hatred, enmity and biases.
11- The government, opposition and media should eradicate activities of enemies.
12- Leaders should suspend all types of political activities during Ashra e Muharram and Azadaran should give priority to Azadari over everything.
13- The media should highlight the great sacrifices of Martyrs of Karbala in a positive and effective manner, and avoiding ‘Munkiraat’ should suspend all types of music, drama, sports and comedy programmes during the Ashra-e-Muharram.
14- Women should observe Azadari by following the seerat of Mukhadderaat-e-Ismat and Taharat.
15- Azadaran should fully participate n matami processions and majalis e aza avoiding excess and deficiency.
16- Discipline and timings should be followed during Majalis-e-Aza and Matmi processions and the dignity and sanctity of Azadari should be taken care of.
17- The organisers of Majalis-e-Aza are fully responsible to follow the ‘Code of Azadari’ and also enforce it on others.
18- The powers that be should issue directives to follow Code of Azadari from lower level to high level.
19- Banned outfits should never be included in inter-religion and national peace committees, and verification should be got from Tehreek Nafaz-e-Fiqh-e-Jafariya for representation of Maktab e Tashayyo in these committees.
In the end, I want to clear on all secular powers that Azadari is our jugular vein which is an eternal universal protest against Iblisis, emblem of honour of humanity and guarantee of our deliverance. Neither we accepted any hurdle in its way in any era and nor would allow anyone to create obstacle therein even today. May Allah make us successful in the court of Rasool (peace be on him and his holy progeny), his Aal-i-Atahar (peace be on them) and pious Sahab kibar (may Allah be leased with them), and keep Islamic world and motherland Pakistan which is ‘Nemat-i-Uzma’ safe from evil of enemies.
Khoon e dil day ke nikharain ge rukh e barg e gulaab
Ham ne gulshan ke tahaffuz ki qasam khayi hai
Khak-paye (foot-dust of) Azadaran
