The detention of Jang/Geo Group’s Editor in-Chief Mir Shakeel ur Rehman by the NAB is a contempt of journalism that can harm NAB as well as government’s repute - Hamid Moosavi

ISLAMABAD, March 14: The Patron in-Chie of Supreme Shia Ulama Board and Head of Tehreek e Nifaz e Fiqah Jafariya Agha Syed Hamid Ali Shah Moosavi has said that the detention of Jang/Geo Group’s Editor in-Chief Mir Shakeel ur Rehman by the NAB is a contempt of journalism that can harm NAB as well as government’s repute therefore, Mir Shakeel ur Rehman must be urgently released to ensure Justice and fair play. Mir Khaleel ur Rehman the founder of Jang Group and Hameed Nizami of Nawa e Waqt hold a rich record of journalistic services for more than seventy five years which are also a valuable asset of the nation. Freedom of journalism and expression is critically important while suppressing journalism is a death for democracy. In his statement issued from the Headquarter Maktab e Tashayyo TNFJ as a reaction to the Mir Shakeel ur Rehman’s arrest, he noted that Judiciary, Legislature, Executive and Journalism are the key pillars of a state. Agha Moosavi lamented that the rulers of every era want that only their sayings and deeds get projected and appreciated. He said that the righteous Caliph Hazrat Ali Ibn e Abi Talib (A.S) was once asked that why your tenure is not as successful as the Holy Prophet’s (SallAllah o Alaih e Waal-e-hi Wasallam) era? Maula Ali (A.S) replied that it is because the Holy Prophet (SallAllah o Alaih e Waal-e-hi Wasallam) had advisors like us however, I have advisors like you. Agha Syed Hamid Ali Shah Moosavi said that the Prime Minister Imran Khan has himself admitted that his ministers issue statements that are often difficult to handle. He said that since the PTI government is made, all major politicians have been dragged which made one of the politician say that after coming into power, our foremost priority would be to finish the institution of NAB. Similarly, yesterday a High Court Chief Justice questioned that why does NAB consider torturing as mandatory? He said that punishment before a crime is a crime itself. Ibn e Muljim was arrested and brought to Hazrat Ali (A.S) and Maula Ali was informed that Ibn e Muljim intends to kill you but Hazrat Ali (A.S) ordered to release him saying that a sentence before a crime cannot be announced. Agha Moosavi stressed upon the government that instead of attacking journalism, government must elevate the respect and dignity of the motherland to be able to complete five years’ tenure and focus upon the real problems including completion of CPEC, address poverty, price-hike, unemployment, crime, and overcoming the disease of Corona to extend meaningful relief to the people.
