Moosavi-Junejo Agreement of 21st May 1985 is a milestone in the history of struggle for religious and civilian freedoms in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, May 22: The Patron in-Chief of Supreme Shia Ulama Board and Head of Tehreek e Nifaz e Fiqah Jafariya Agha Syed Hamid Ali Shah Moosavi has said that the Moosavi-Junejo Agreement of 21st May 1985 is a milestone in the history of struggle for religious and civilian freedoms in Pakistan which also carries complete image of the constitution of Pakistan. Not only Shias or Sunnis but entire Islam and Pakistan have been hit by terrorism. National Action Plan is also an image of TNFJ’s eight hundred paged Moosavi Peace Formula that was presented in the Supreme Court of Pakistan during 1997. To eliminate extremism and terrorism, all points of National Action Plan must be acted upon. Some forces want to make Pakistan secular and extremist; we will defend Pakistan’s ideological foundation even at the cost of our lives. The eleven-year tenure of Zia regime caused irreparable damage to Islam on the name of Shariah during which, the Shariah of the holy Prophet (PBUH&HP) was presented as a religion of punishments and extremists and terrorists which is a false allegation against Islam. The dictator, who did not kneel down even by the M.R.D movement, was forced to submit in front of Tehreek e Nifaz e Fiqah Jafariya’s peaceful agitation. Hussaini Mahaz agitation was the biggest agitation of Pakistan’s history during which more than fourteen thousand Shias and Sunnis besides eight Christians volunteered themselves for arrest however, not a single shop was burned or a cart displaced during the course of eight months agitation. Meeland un Nabi and Azadari are the spirit of Islam we can sacrifice life but will never allow anyone to extract the spirit of Islam. He said this in his special message to a conference tilted as “Youm e Tahaffuz e Nazriya e Pakistan (i.e. the day of defending Pakistan’s ideology) Conference, held under the auspices of Mukhtar Organization and Mukhtar Students Organization that was organized on completion of 33 years of the agreement between TNFJ and the then government of Pakistan on 21st May 1985 and is remembered as the “Moosavi-Junejo Agreement, the message was read by the Central Secretary Information Allama Syed Qamar Haider Zaidi. Agha Syed Muhammad Murtaza Moosavi advocate, Agha Syed Ali Roohul Abbas Advocate, Syed Bu Ali Mehdi and other dignitaries were among the chief guests on the occasion.

In his message, Agha Moosavi noted that the creation of Pakistan is the greatest incident of 20th century and an immortal achievement of Quaid e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah who gathered the biggest population of Muslims in any region of the world and transformed them into a nation and got them an independent state however, after Quaid e Azam the reins of power fell into the hands of the people subservient to British colonialism who instead of developing, proffered looting the country that was followed by the Martial laws instigated by the incompetence of politicians. First Martial law sowed the seeds of abjection which resulted in disintegration of the country during second Martial Law while the third Martial law announced to change Pakistan into a sectarian state by attacking the founding ideology of Pakistan. All kinds of racism and sectarianism were promoted during this period and the nation received the gifts of Kalashnikov culture and drugs besides sowing the seeds of terrorism. In such a grave situation, we raised voice of protest from Ali Masjid before anyone else and vowed that we will never allow anyone to deviate Pakistan from the principles of Allama Iqbal and Quaid e Azam. In reaction to all these conspiracies against Pakistan, Tehreek e Nifaz e Fiqah Jafariya came into being which was forced to occupy Secretariat to get her demands accepted and the member of Tehreek e Nifaz e Fiqah Jafariya named Muhammad Hussain Shaad received the honor of being the first martyr for the Ideology of Pakistan. This movement resulted in issuance of a press note which stated that any legislation in Pakistan will take all schools of thought into consideration. Agha Syed Hamid Ali Shah Moosavi further mentioned that the eight-month Hussaini Mahaz agitation that started on 7th October 1984 was the biggest agitation of Pakistan’s history. Decorated with the blood of two martyrs namely Safdar Ali Naqvi and Ashraf Ali Rizwi, this peaceful agitation filled with recitation of Darood e Pak and Hussaini mourning forced the martial law dictator to kneel down and the Junejo government right after coming into power contacted us that was followed by rigorous negotiations that resulted into the agreement of 21st May 1985. The first postulate of the agreement stated that the government of Pakistan in consultation with the provincial governments has decided that all religious processions (licensed or traditional) will continue to be brought out and will be exempted from the Police Act. Moreover the announcement of liberating more than fourteen thousand prisoners of Hussaini Mahaz was also made in the agreement. The agreement also formulated a 16-members Shia demands committee which included Shia, Sunni representatives along with the Ex- Vice President Waseem Sajjad, and Iqbal Ahmad khan while the Shia demands included establishment of Fiqah Jafariya for Shias, equal Shia representation for Shias in all state institutions and the last of the demand was to put diplomatic pressure on the government of Saudi Arabia to reconstruct the demolished cemeteries of Jannat ul Baqi and Jannat ul Mualla.

As a result of our struggle, although the ban on processions of Azadari and Meelad ul Nabi was lifted however; other demands are still awaiting actions by the government. Agha Syed Hamid Ali Shah Moosavi vowed to continue his struggle for the protection of Pakistan’s founding ideology and and national rights with all sincerity. Quaid e Millat e Jafariya Agha Syed Hamid Ali Shah Moosavi further said that the anti-terrorism operation of Raddul fasaad is the result of national aspirations and demand which is fully supported by the entire nation and we will continue to extend unconditional support to this operation.

In a resolution passed on the occasion by the participants of the conference stated that the processions of Meelad ul Nabi and Azadari are the symbols of Islam’s glory and therefore, the Hussaini Mahaz Agitation led by Quaid e Millat e Jafariya Agha Syed Hamid Ali Shah Moosavi will stay alive forever. The resolution further pledged that no one will be allowed to impose restrictions on religious freedoms while the spirit of Shia-Sunni brotherhood will be protected at all cost. The resolution also demanded from the government to ensure action on Moosavi-Junejo agreement. Chaudhary Mushtaq Hussain, Ali Ajwad Naqvi, Sardar Tariq Ahmad Jafari, Malik Ali Furqani, Syed Muhammad Abbas Kazmi, Syed Ali Zain ul Abideen Naqvi, Syed Kashif Kazmi, Mufti Basim Abbas Zaahiri, M. H. Jafari, Dr. N. H. Naqvi also addressed the conference.
